Senior Genetic Counselor - Clinical Genomics Laboratory
The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks an ABGC or ABMG certified/eligible senior genetic counselor to lead a team of genetic counselors and data scientists in the rapidly growing VUMC Clinical Genomics Laboratory (VCGL). This is a faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate in Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology. 3-5 years' experience with interpretation of next generation sequencing (NGS)-based testing of constitutional and/or oncology specimens is required. Leadership experience is strongly desired.
The dynamic VCGL team includes physician medical directors, an operational manager, genetic counselors, variant scientists, and laboratory technologists, who work collaboratively in performing whole exome and constitutional NGS panel testing for VUMC patients. Key responsibilities for the senior genetic counselor include:
- Coordinates the activities and serves as a resource to genetic counselors and variant scientists
- Performs interpretation and analysis of genetic test results
- Provides guidance to clinical staff regarding genetic testing and interpretation and maintains collaborations with internal and external partners to facilitate specialty genetic testing
- Leads the development of high-quality resources to physicians and other healthcare professionals on genetic testing
- Ensures the laboratory is up to date with advances in genetics and genomics and applying knowledge in clinical content
- Participates in development and maintenance of clinical workflows and processes
- Participates in development of genetic testing policies and procedures
- Assists the medical director to lead development of new genetic tests and integration of new technologies
- Participates in education of medical students, residents, fellows and genetic counselor students
The successful candidate will work closely with other section faculty in the administration, oversight, management, and research and development activities of the laboratories. Academic rank and salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
