The role you’ll contribute:
Provide genetic counseling for individuals/families at risk for hereditary cancer syndromes because of their family or personal cancer and medical history, environmental exposures, ethnic background or other factors. Work directly with the patient to provide assessment, counseling, follow-up, and referral to community resources as necessary. Provide needed documentation for patient and physicians. Provides educational information/experiences for students and health care professionals. Serve as primary liaison between patients, physicians, and other health providers, as well as between clinical genetic services and other departments. Support the development of the Genetic Counseling Program. Work in collaboration with laboratory services to coordinate necessary services. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
· * Provide on-site genetic counseling for individuals and families in accordance with National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) genetic/familial high-risk assessment guidelines and risk reduction guidelines.
o Clients may be self-referred, or physician referred and can be of any age.
o Obtain a structured family genetic history with respect to the referral indication.
o Construct a multiple generation genetic pedigree (3 generational family history recommended).
o Perform an analysis of available medical information for genetic risk assessment, psychosocial
counseling and counseling of the patient and family.
o Provide age specific education on basic genetic principles and hereditary syndromes, available testing and treatment/intervention options and risks.
· Launch (and continually monitor) the AHCI Genetic Counseling Program with support from AHCI Administration and AHCI Medical Director.
o Establish processes/policies for both the clinical and operational components of the program addressing issues including client pathway, client scheduling/registration, documentation/client chart/ needed forms, billing and insurance, laboratory testing/charging/, scenarios requiring physician orders and physician expectations including follow up communication.
· Establish a Genetics Counseling Program presence; develop a referral base.
o Education regarding AHCI Genetic Counseling Program to be deployed to physicians/clinicians and the community.
o Meet with all identified physicians (physicians likely to have patient populations needing genetic counseling/testing) to gain a clear understanding of the referring physician’s expectations regarding the counseling services including timeliness and summary content (written correspondence) of follow up communication.
o GC to be present and participate in all appropriate tumor boards and physician CME program
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Master of Science Degree in Genetic Counseling or Human genetics (or equivalent)
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Board eligible with Temporary Licensure in the State of FL; OR
· Board Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling with full licensure in the State of FL for Genetic counseling within (2) years of hire date
