The Division of Genetics seeks a full-time genetic counselor to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. This position has a competitive salary and full benefits package. The successful candidate will join a division that includes clinical and biochemical geneticists, a genetic nurse practitioner, and six pediatric genetic counselors.
Through partnership with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System and Baylor, The Children’s Hospital is the first and only freestanding 240-bed children's hospital in San Antonio and serves as a focal point for pediatric services and metabolic genetic services throughout the community.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Works collaboratively with the laboratory leaders and staff and prior authorization staff to standardize genetic testing workflows through the development of algorithms, order sets, decision support tools, and build appropriate order guidance
Reviews, educates, collaborates, and consults with providers to determine clinical appropriateness, redundancy or duplicative orders, best methodology, and selection based on contracted reference lab
Interprets genetic test results and communicates the results to the patient and referring provider (as appropriate)
Accurately documents each case in the electronic health record and communicates with providers in a timely manner
Provides education to medical students, residents, and faculty about appropriate labs to be ordered based on patient assessment
Reports to Genetic Counselor Supervisor
