Responsibilities
A highly motivated ABGC eligible/certified genetic counselor (GC) is needed to join our Reproductive Genetics Team. The prenatal GC provides genetic consultation to providers requesting genetic testing and will provide direct counseling and risk assessment services to patients across UCLA Health. In some instances, the counselor may work in a multi-disciplinary manner with other UCLA Health providers. The GC in this position will also support the ATLAS return of results process working in collaboration with the Lab GC in the ATLAS Return of Result clinic.
In thins role, you will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and must be able to work with patients and staff who have diverse cultural backgrounds, life experiences, education levels, lifestyles, and socioeconomic statuses. Sensitivity and the ability to work with providers and patients confidentially and positively are essential.
*Will hire GC 1 or GC 2 based on experience
Qualifications - Master’s degree in genetic counseling from an accredited genetic counseling program
- At least one year of experience in genetic counseling (post master's degree) preferred
- Board eligible/certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
- License or License-eligible from the state of California.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply genetic counseling methods and techniques
- Knowledge of health care systems, health insurance authorization processes, health information systems, and community resources
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to ensure that all recommended testing that is ordered is completed and that patients have been appropriately informed of the results in a timely manner
- Ability to present relevant genetic information to individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds in an informed, compassionate manner and to help families obtain the medical and social services they may need
- One year of experience in Health care or a closely related field as determined by institution is preferred but not required Knowledge of patient resource information (i.e. counseling, physician referrals, support groups, community resources)
