Director of Molecular & Genomic Pathology

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN (USA).  The Department of Pathology at Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking an MD, MD PhD, or PhD pathologist with a track record of accomplishments in a leadership role to head our Division of Molecular and Genomic Pathology (MGP).

MGP is housed in newly renovated space on our North Campus Research Center (NCRC) located a little more than two miles from our main medical campus. MGP is co-located with other non-stat clinical laboratories as well as facilities housing faculty, education programs, and administrative support including the Chair’s suite. Our state-of-the-art molecular laboratories occupy nearly 24,000 square feet and are the product of the University of Michigan’s first large scale lean design project. Open laboratories with shared core functions and administrative space are dedicated to comprehensive molecular profiling for somatic and constitutional genomics (12,700 ft²), cytogenetics and molecular dermatopathology (7,400 ft²), and HLA/flow cytometry (3,500 ft²).

MGP comprises multiple faculty who serve as technical supervisors and clinical consultants in their CLIA designated roles while also fully participating in the educational, and research missions of a large academic department. Faculty in clinical and anatomic pathology who are board certified in molecular and genetic pathology also participate in the analytical phase of molecular and genomic testing. Testing done in MGP serves the needs of not only University of Michigan Health patients but also patients and providers served through MLabs, a full-service reference laboratory division with a diverse national base of over 700 clients. University of Michigan Health (UMH) includes three hospitals and Rogel Cancer Center on our main medical campus in Ann Arbor with another new inpatient tower under construction. Our health system includes multiple regional ambulatory care sites, a wholly owned hospital and integrated delivery network (UMH-West) in the Grand Rapids area, and multiple strategic relationships throughout the state. Education programs include contact with medical students in the University of Michigan Medical School, one of the most highly ranked pathology residencies in the country, and ACGME-accredited Molecular Genetic Pathology and Laboratory Genetics & Genomics Fellowships. Educational opportunities are enriched by other post-graduate training programs including nine ACGME accredited and eight non-accredited subspecialties in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as pathology informatics.

The Department of Pathology at Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan) has over 1,000 staff and 180 faculty members with extramural research expenditures in 2020 of nearly $33 million dollars.  State-of-the-art research laboratories, a large community of investigators committed to team science, and a diverse, world-class medical center contribute to a nurturing and supportive environment for research endeavors.  We occupied our new non-stat clinical laboratories and non-laboratory space at NCRC in the summer of 2018; our hospital laboratories, including a large automated core lab, are in the latter phases of a major renovation to be completed in 2024.
