What you’ll do
The Director is a key leadership position within the Provincial Medical Genetics Program (PMGP) that is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive integrated clinical, academic and research genomic medicine program for BC Women’s Hospital + Health Care Centre (BCW)/Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), and the Province. This position reports to the Senior Director, Patient Care Services. In a model of dyad leadership, the Director works in partnership with the Medical Director, PMGP to co-lead the identification, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all key initiatives and related projects to connect and align the evolving medical genetics industry in order to advance clinical processes and outcomes, research and innovation across the Province. High-level accountabilities include:
- Leads the development and implementation of a provincial strategy, to guide the integration of genomic medicine into the future, based on qualified expertise in medical genetics research, rare disease, genomics, patient care delivery and advanced scientific knowledge.
- Fosters strong positive relationships and partnerships with internal and external key stakeholders, and with Medical Genetics health care leaders to facilitate information sharing and collaboration to support the improvement of processes and standards of knowledge translation and medical genetics service delivery within BC and other health jurisdictions.
- Oversees the allocation and management of resources, both financial and workforce, ensuring to meet initiatives, goals and targets of the strategic and operating plans.
- Leads initiatives to improve medical genetics care quality, safety and ongoing performance, with a focus on achieving provincial evidence informed standards of care and quality.
- Leads and advances all research and academic agendas to make significant contributions to the evolving highly specialized genomic specialty; builds provincial capacity and capability through education and knowledge translation of advancement in genomic knowledge to community care providers and specialty services across the province.

What you bring
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Medical Genetics/Genomics, or an equivalent level of education, training, and experience
- 7+ years’ recent and related experience including leading and/or impacting large systems and the development, implementation and evaluation of operational and strategic plans.
- Demonstrated expertise in medical genetics, genetic counselling and genomic research in relation to clinical practice, health systems and policy, population health, knowledge exchange and change management.
Skills
- Innovative leadership skills, with the proven ability to foster a collaborative team approach to decision making, and the strong ability to interact tactfully and effectively with staff at all organizational levels..
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with global perspective in order to incorporate the organization’s systems and strategies when developing viable solutions to problems.
- Responsiveness to the needs of stakeholders supported by an acute awareness of the impact of actions; experienced in negotiation and mediation to bring complete situations to resolution.
- Effective fiscal and financial management skills.
