Fairview Health Services is seeking a Pediatrics Genetic Counselor for its University of Minnesota Medical Center location. Our Pediatrics team collaborates with other specialties to build individualized patient care plans.
Genetic counselors across the organization are involved in several specialty clinics including general genetics clinic, metabolic clinic, bone marrow transplant clinic, cystic fibrosis clinic, hearing loss clinic, neurofibromatosis clinic, disorders of sexual development clinic, among others. We also have genetic counseling staff involved in the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory. This range in diversity provides new genetic counselors access to clinical expertise in many areas of genetics in one institution.This position will also largely serve the inpatient population at M Health Fairview's Masonic Children's Hospital and the NICU.
The clinic requiring genetic counseling is pediatric specialty clinics. The selected candidate will work with the University of Minnesota/Fairview team of genetic counselors, physician specialists, medical geneticists, and laboratory personnel at M Health Fairview.
Coordinate patient activities for genetics department/clinics
Counsel patients and families seen at clinics and in the hospital.
Provide genetic counseling service for families for whom molecular methods of diagnosis can offerimportant health and reproductive information
Develop and provide educational services to health professionals and community groups
Develop educational materials regarding genetic disease for health professionals and the lay public.
Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Masters Degree in Genetic Counseling
American Board of Medical Genetics Certified
One to three years of experience
Must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics
