The Center for Human Genetics is a large comprehensive program that combines the clinical arms of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (UHCMC) and the Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine. Become a member of a growing clinical team consisting of 9 genetic counselors, 7 clinical medical geneticists, 2 obstetrical geneticists, 1 cytogeneticist, 1 molecular geneticist, nutritionist, and various support staff. The Center for Human Genetics provides clinical services in the areas of Prenatal, Preconception, Pediatric, Metabolic, Prader-Willi syndrome, Cancer, Marfan syndrome, Craniofacial Disorders, Cardiogenetics, Adult Genetics, Hemophilia, Sickle Cell, Hearing Loss, and Neurogenetics. The Department has an accredited Genetic Counselor Training Program with eight students per year. We also have two Genetic Counselors who are the recipients of the Linda Vinney Endowed Directors of Genetic Counseling, the first such endowed positions in genetic counseling in the USA.
We are expanding and have 1 remaining clinical genetic counseling position available focusing in Cancer Genetics; however with so many disciplines operating from one central hub, genetic counseling in other clinical areas listed above may be an option, based on interest. The position may include some counseling via telemedicine platforms.
Positions include a faculty appointment at CWRU utilizing your skills as an educator, mentor and supervisor for CWRU genetic counseling students, residents, and medical students. Opportunities to participate in research are numerous as the Center is a bridge department between CWRU and UHCMC enabling opportunities from bench work to clinical care. JOB REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION MS degree from an accredited training program in genetic counseling.
Board certified or Board eligible status by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
