Our Center for Medical Genomics currently has 6 genetic counselors that provide genetic counseling across multiple service lines, including oncology, prenatal, NICU, cardiovascular, neurology and adult services. The Center for Medical Genomics is currently recruiting for Full-time Genetic Counselors to join our team.
Opportunities for employment are available in the following areas of genetic counseling:
Prenatal/Preconception genetic counseling
Our genetic counselors are responsible for conducting intake screening and risk assessment, explaining the nature and scope of testing procedures, and following up with results. We also provide opportunities to teach and supervise residents, fellows, undergraduate students and graduate genetic counseling students. The genetic counselors will also provide educational lectures to professionals as well as participate in community outreach. Educational enrichment is integral to the position with participation in journal clubs, and case conferences.
Requirements: Master's degree in Human Genetics/ Genetic Counseling. ABGC or ACMG Board certification is required at hire or the individual must be ABGC board eligible and have active candidate status. In addition, the candidate must obtain a Delaware Genetic Counselor license. Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling is required for continued employment as this is a necessary requirement for licensure. One year experience desired, but not required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling. Certified Genetic Counselor or Board eligible, or certified Genetic Nurse Practitioner, or physician. Certification and ongoing certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling required for continued employment.

Knowledge of genetics and the impact on oncology.
Knowledge of clinical oncology care.
Knowledge of information systems and high risk family cancer registries.
Knowledge of Performance Improvement process.
Skilled in oral and written communications.
Skilled in listening to others.
Ability to counsel patients according to genetic counseling standards.
Ability to counsel patients who have inheritable genetic defects.
Ability to counsel patients when there is a genetic impact of abnormal findings.
Ability to respond appropriately and effectively to patient's crisis situations.
Ability to use common computer software for daily work and data input and retrieval.
Ability to collaborate with clinicians and other staff and maintain positive working relationships.
Ability to exercise tact, judgment and diplomacy.
Ability to relate to people in a manner to gain confidence and establish support; ability to maintain confidentiality.
Master's degree for an accredited Genetic Counseling program. American Board of Genetic Counseling eligible or certified. Delaware License for Genetic Counseling (provisional or full)
