Clinical Laboratory Operations Manager – Molecular Genetics and NGS
Integrated Genetics (IG), a division of LabCorp, is hiring an Operations Manager for its Molecular Genetics Department at its Westborough, MA location (WB). This department serves as a premiere provider of molecular genetics carrier screening for LabCorp and has successfully launched multiple NGS assays for the Company.
The Molecular Genetics Operations Manager will oversee the operations and administration of carrier screening within the clinical diagnostic laboratory environment. This position will have ownership over all Molecular Genetics operational processes, personnel and administrative functions for IG-WB. Reporting to the Site Director, the Molecular Genetics Operations Manager will work closely with the IG senior leadership team as well as R&D and other labs running NGS and carrier screening assays.
Direct the technical operations of the Molecular Genetics lab, including accurate delivery of patient results, competency, continuing education and positive morale of laboratory staff
Support Business Development and strategic planning for new analytical technologies, especially NGS testing
Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and have ownership and responsibility for all Molecular Genetics lab personnel
Oversee lab operations and attend staff and management meetings
Be responsible for laboratory performance criteria including:
Delivering patient laboratory results within specified TAT
Monitoring and ensuring acceptable repeat and failure rates
Achieving pre-determined assay reagent and supply costs and maintain updated costs
Assuring productivity levels in the labs are achieved and maintained
Ensure processes and services are monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency through continuous process and quality improvement.
Determine efficient workflow, capacities and staffing needs / oversight as well as troubleshooting problems as necessary
Manage staff including recruiting & hiring qualified and enthusiastic employees, performance management, training and development
Work closely and cooperatively with the clinical directors as well as develop a close relationship with R&D in partnering to bring on new NGS assays and/or improve existing assays
BS/BA in Biology, Chemistry or related science. MS preferred
5+ years’ relevant laboratory experience required
3+ years’ supervisory or management experience in a lab environment required
Experience with Next Generation Sequencing assays highly desired, including the involvement with the development, implementation and troubleshooting of assays
Experience developing, launching and overseeing assay performance preferred
Experience managing laboratory workflow and scheduling highly desired
Experience in a clinical laboratory, knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (i.e. CLIA, CAP, CA, NY State) and experience with audits is preferred
Excellent technical and troubleshooting skills
