Full-time or part time preferably based in Houston, TX with mixed on site and remote activities, although based elsewhere with only remote activity will be considered. The initial activities will be to support the overall goal of launching a new form of genetic prenatal diagnosis, cell-based noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) (PMID 31785788). This will include recruiting patients for existing IRB protocols and contributing to the development of new IRB protocols. Current work is focused on refinements of assay development with the goal of performing a CLIA validation study followed test launch within the next few months. Validation studies will include test performance on women undergoing amniocentesis or CVS with cell-based NIPT results to be compared to those from invasive procedures. The person will have a major role in design of the validation study and recruitment of 4-8 clinical sites. This is expected to be the first of multiple genetic counselor positions within Luna Genetics. The genetic counselor group would prepare educational materials, support research projects, consent research participants, and support availability of CLIA testing once the test is launched.
A masters in genetic counseling and NSGC certification are required.
At least two years of experience with preference for significant involvement with prenatal genetics.
More extensive experience including in research protocols is desirable.
Telecommuting is allowed.
Additional Salary Information: This will be a consulting position without healthcare or retirement benefits but salary will be increased to compensate for this. Stock options are possible.
