Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Genetic Counselor to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.
We are looking for outstanding applicants who value critical, creative thinking about genetics and counseling, and work well on teams. You will join a multi-disciplinary team studying genetic contributions to immune disorders, from bench to bedside. This genetic counseling position focuses on patient care in a clinical research setting and is situated at the heart of a relatively new, dynamic institute-wide genomics initiative. This unique genetic counseling position offers opportunities for:

The candidate hired for this role will be responsble for:
Responsible for the organization and integration of pertinent medical, genetic, psychosocial and psychophysical information relative to a patient or a genetic problem. He/she will effectively communicate this information, including recurrence risk assessment and family planning options, to patients and their family members, as is indicated. He/she will provide initial psychosocial assessments of primary NIH patients and refer for continued care.
Assist in clinical and translational research in the Branch, including performing reviews of relevant medical/scientific literature, organizing data, and writing manuscripts for publication. When appropriate, he/she may be asked to make formal presentations of this information at internal NIH conferences and/or at national/international scholarly meetings.
Construct family pedigrees, contact family members, aid in obtaining genetic specimens, and facilitate proper clinical and research molecular testing.
Participate in ongoing clinical quality control within the lab, making suggestions for how to best integrate and execute genetic services in NIH.
Assist in conducting behavioral and genetic counseling research.
Evaluate the potential impact of legislation, papers, reports, and other information on current and planned genetic counseling activities and recommends appropriate action.
Brief officials on emerging genetic and genetic counseling issues. Recommend responses to such issues.
Assist in the preparation and execution of relevant NIH research protocols.
Reviews and presentations of data related to DIR/NIAID patient care and clinical research. This may include reviews of the current and past literature for specific topics related to patient care and research.
Master of Science in Genetic Counseling with at least 2+ years of related experience.
Board –eligible or board certified in Genetic Counseling.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Extreme attention to detail.
Willingness to take initiative and work independently but is also very efficient working as a member of a team.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
NIH experience a plus.
