TheLaboratory Manager is responsible for the direction and supervision of allaspects of operations (technical /administrative) in the lab to align with theLaboratory Administrative Director. Supportsthe Laboratory Directorâs plan to instruct and organize staff, and control theoperation of the hospital clinical laboratory in accordance with hospitalrules, regulations (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and HIPAA) andprevailing law. Will assume the duties of the Administrative Director inhis/her absence.This requires exceptionalcustomer service skills and will include a broad range of managerialduties.The manager is responsible forestablishing and leading a culture of safety and overseeing quality improvementactivities of all laboratory employees. Develops procedural protocols. Managers possessstrong analytical skills and an understanding of scientific principles toperform various tests in the analysis of blood, body fluids and tissues asordered by Healthcare personnel. Acts as a clinical resource to the generalstaff by providing leadership, direction and guidance.. Ensures training of newemployees and students. Ensure competency of team on off shifts and re-educatesas needed. Maintains equipment and supply inventory.Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies(i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, andpatient confidentiality) and procedures. Maintains knowledge and practicescurrent regulatory guidelines.Preparesand participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as JointCommission, CAP and AABB. Follows best practice for infection control inaccordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Mustpossess the ability to: communicate effectively (orally and in writing),establish and accomplish objectives, function independently and under pressure,organize work to prevent delays, demonstrate critical thinking skills, andpromote collaborative problem-solving both within the department andhospital-wide. Must have a working knowledge of laboratory concepts and applications,and all laboratory regulatory requirements..
MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification, baccalaureate degree in Chemical,Biological or Physical Science with 1 year training through an accreditedmedical technology program.
MinimumExperience:Minimum of 3years of hospital experience as a Medical Technologist; 3 years of managementexperience; prefer 2 years experience as Laboratory Manager with hospitalbackground.
RequiredCertifications/Registrations/Licenses:Must meetCLIA 1988 regulations for general supervisor in a high complexity laboratory.
