We are seeking a full-time prenatal genetic counselor to join our Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice, which includes 1 MFM provider, 1 genetic counselor, 3 nurse practitioners, 5 ultrasonographers, and 4 nurses.
Job duties include
providing prenatal and preconception genetic counseling for individuals for various indications (advanced maternal age, discussion of screening and diagnostic testing, abnormal test results, family history of genetic disorders or birth defects, teratogen exposures, abnormal carrier screening results, multiple miscarriages, etc)
collecting and assessing family histories
coordinating specimen collection, handling, and shipping
assessing the psychosocial needs of the patients
Referring patients to other physicians, therapists, or providers for future counseling or treatment as appropriate
Writing follow-up consultation letters to referring providers
Allowing opportunities for student shadowing
Assisting the MFM physician with research projects and publications as needed
Performing other duties as required and/or requested based on the needs of the patient and practice
Board certified/board eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counselors
Master’s degree in genetic counseling or human genetics from and ABGC accredited genetic counseling or equivalent program
Ability to work independently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Maternal Fetal Care, PC is an established, full-service, perinatal practice focusing on the provision of services to expectant mothers and their unborn babies. These services include high resolution 2-D, 3-D, and 4-D sonography, including first-trimester nuchal translucency/nasal bone screening, level II anatomic surveys, fetal echocardiography; preconception and perinatal consultation in all aspects of maternal-fetal medicine; co-management of complicated pregnancies; management of diabetes mellitus during pregnancy; genetic counseling and testing; performance of prenatal diagnostic procedures, i.e., amniocentesis, and CVS; antepartum FHR testing; 2-D and 3-D saline infusion sonography (SIS), and gynecologic ultrasound.
Maternal Fetal Care, PC is the only facility in the state of Connecticut accredited by both the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) in both Obstetric and Gynecologic ultrasound. Our staff includes five ARDMS-registered sonographers who have also received additional certification from the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) in nuchal translucency screening (NT), nasal bone measurement (NB), and uterine arte...ry Doppler assessment of preeclampsia risk. Two of our sonographers are registered in fetal echocardiography by the ARDMS. Our chief sonographer is also ARDMS-registered in vascular and neurosonography. Our clinical staff also includes a certified genetic counselor, a certified physician’s assistant, and three APRNs.
