This position allows you to care for Veterans by providing competent, production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. The Sonographer is regarded as the expert source of all ultrasound imagining, and the interpreting radiologist relies heavily on the skills, knowledge and abilities of the sonographer in providing final interpretation.
Within the specialization there is a diverse range of ultrasound imaging sub-specialties. These include: Diagnostic medical sonography-abd., neuro, small parts and gyn; vascular technology- vascular and related organs.
Performs ultrasound examination of the abdomen, neck, chest, extremities, retroperitoneal space, pelvis, OB and vascular studies.
Participates in training of students and radiology technicians.
Makes multiple simultaneous settings and adjustments in operation of equipment to insure accurate results.
Reviews new developments in the field and recommends to supervisor those that would improve the operation of the section.
Maintains adequate supplies.
Assists the radiologist in the performance of cyst punctures, aspiration biopsies and catheter placements using ultrasound techniques.
Reviews related information found in the patient's electronic medical record to correlate lab and x-ray for the radiologist.
Develops and maintains patient prep procedures.
Operates multi-image camera for making hard copy records of ultrasound examinations.
Follows standard procedure for disinfection of the transvaginal transducer.
Preferred Experience: Will consist of recent experience within the last two years with Interventional Diagnostic Ultrasound procedures as well as Board Certification in Abdominal Ultrasound and or Vascular Ultrasound.
