The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics is an organization composed of biochemical, clinical, cytogenetic, medical and molecular geneticists, genetic counselors and other health care professionals committed to the practice of medical genetics. ACMG was incorporated in 1991 to give national representation to providers of genetic services and their patients with genetic disorders and to speak for the emerging specialty of medical genetics in organizations and agencies concerned with medical service, certification, and regulatory issues. ACMG provides education, resources, and a voice for the medical genetics profession and its mission is to improve health through genetics and genomics.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
Working closely with department directors, the Website Designer, will be responsible for planning, creating, editing and publishing information on the ACMG College (www.acmg.net) and ACMG Foundation (www.acmgfoundation.org) websites. This role will ensure that web content meets the needs and interests of website visitors and monitors visitor behavior by reviewing website statistics. This role will ensure that website style guidelines are consistently implemented across all webpages. In all activities, organization, accuracy, thoroughness, thoughtfulness, and an ability to manage multiple deadlines are of utmost importance.
Collaborates with department directors to plan, create, edit and publish information on ACMG and ACMGF websites.
Ensures final web product is correct by contentiously reaching out for feedback from department directors throughout the production process.
Checks content for accuracy and ensures that it complies with copyright and privacy regulations, as well as ACMG/ACMGF style guide.
Suggests edits to the copy to make it easy to read on a website page. Works with the department to ensure content meets the departmental needs as well as website visitor expectations.
Contacts content contributors to find out if material needs to be updated and encourages contributors to supply new content to keep the website fresh for returning visitors.
Works closely with graphic designers to ensure a cohesive relationship between copy and design.
Drafts concise technical specification for needed functional website development.
Optimizes online content to help improve search rankings and user engagement.

Technical Capacity: advanced proficiency in iMIS association management software and RISE content management system, iParts, Java script, HTML Code, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
Advanced understanding of the unique requirements of writing for the Web, such as the use of keywords, hyperlinks, navigation and the importance of brevity
Ability to explain technical aspects of the website to non-technical staff members
Ability to offer creative solutions
Attention to detail
Exceptional communication (oral and written) proficiency
Able to adapt writing style to suit different target audiences
B.A. or B.S., required (or equivalent work experience)
3-5 years of experience of using web content management systems to update online content required.
Ability to maintain productive and professional working relationships with team members.
This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see and lift small objects up to 30 lbs.
