Inova Translational Medicine Institute (Inova Health Systems) has an opening for a full-time clinical Cancer Genetic Counselor to join a team of five genetic counselors and a medical geneticist to provide risk assessment and clinical follow up for individuals with or at risk for hereditary cancer syndromes.
We are looking for someone who can work independently to manage genetic education, risk assessment, counseling, coordination of genetic testing and support to patients and their family members at risk for inherited cancer syndromes. They will communicate between the patient and their multi-disciplinary care team in diagnosis and evaluations of such conditions, and review options for screening and prevention and make appropriate referrals.
Mentoring by experienced cancer genetic counselors can be provided for new / recent graduates. Applicants should have a particular interest in developing and maintaining expertise in hereditary breast and gastrointestinal (GI) cancer syndromes and will have the opportunity to participate in breast and GI tumor boards and Cancer Committee. There is also the opportunity to participate in teaching and mentoring genetic counseling graduate students from local Master’s degree training programs and genetics fellows/residents from local fellowship training programs.
All applicants must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Masters degree in genetic counseling, ABGC board-eligible or -certified. Trained in clinical genetics, communicating genetic risk, counseling techniques.
1-3 years of clinical cancer genetics experience preferred, but not required.
