As a key member of our team, you will provide clinical consultation to patients and families with a suspected hereditary predisposition to cancer. In addition, you will provide genetic education to medical staff, provide community education and outreach, and analyze patient needs using current knowledge of genetic science and technology.
Ensuring the development, growth, direction, and management of the Cancer Genetics Program
Providing genetic counseling to patients at risk of having a genetic predisposition to cancer
Consulting patients on cancer risks, appropriate testing, and communication of test results
Communicating test results and management recommendations to referring physicians
Serving as a resource to other healthcare providers
Advocating and identifying resources for patients
Delivering didactic lectures to staff and community
Performing other related functions as needed
The Cancer Institute at St. Francis Hospital is looking for a highly-motivated BC/BE genetic counselor to support its growing Cancer Genetic Program. Prior experience with cancer genetic counseling is preferred. Applicants should have strong interpersonal communication skills, be organized, flexible, and able to work independently. Superior analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment, attention to detail, and problem resolution will also be expected, as will the ability to contribute to team meeting discussions/projects and take part in projects associated with the accomplishment of outcomes that will help improve patient care. Strong consultation skills including the identification of risks, offering of appropriate testing, communicating test results, and writing summary reports are all essential. Strong customer service, oral/written communication, organizational and decision making skills are required.
