Unique opportunity for a full time Genetic Counselor to join a dynamic clinical team in an expanding, comprehensive genetics program.
The Department of Medical Genetics and Genomic Medicine at Saint Peter’s University Hospital offers prenatal, pediatric, adult, metabolic, cancer, lysosomal and general clinical genetic services; conducts education and outreach programs; participates in clinical research and registries; houses one of the largest Lysosomal Therapy Infusion Centers in the country; and serves as one of three NJ State-funded comprehensive regional centers for Newborn Screening and General Genetics Services for the state’s population of 8.9 million.
The practice has seen approximately 32,000 genetics patients and logged nearly 45,000 genetics patient visits during the last 25 years. SPUH delivers over 5,500 babies a year, has more than 900 annual admissions to the NICU at The Children’s Hospital at SPUH, of which approximately 12% receive a genetics consultation, and performs over 17,000 fetal ultrasounds annually in the Antenatal Testing Unit.
Provide genetic counseling services (pedigree taking, risk analysis, education, coordination of testing) to prenatal, pediatric and adult patients with known or suspected genetic and metabolic disorders
Draft visit summary letters, obtain medical records, perform literature searches, follow through with recommendations and management plan, field phone calls, and track statistics as needed
Develop clinical expertise in one or more areas (e.g. metabolism, prenatal, pediatric, adult [e.g. cancer, cardiovascular] genetics)
Participate in education of residents, medical students, genetic counseling students, community attending physicians, and other departmental faculties
MS degree from an accredited genetic counseling program; experience in pediatrics, metabolism and/or adult genetics highly desirable
Board certified/eligible; NJS licensed/eligible to apply
Strong writing and interpersonal skills
