The Laboratory for Molecular Medicine (LMM) at Partners HealthCare Personalized Medicine, a clinical molecular diagnostic laboratory, is actively recruiting for a Genetic Counselor. Under supervision of and in close consultation with the Director of Genetic Counseling and the LMM's Molecular Geneticists, this genetic counselor will serve as a liaison between the LMM and outside clinicians and collaborators as well as play a critical role in test interpretation and reporting.
The mission of the LMM is to translate novel discoveries into cutting-edge tests and accelerate the adoption of new molecular tests into clinical care, through diagnostic testing and translational research programs. Our expanding list of diagnostic tests offered includes: cardiomyopathy, hearing loss and related syndromes, RASopathies, connective tissue disorders, and pulmonary disorders. We also offer exome and genome sequencing services for all clinical indications and support many NIH-funded genomic medicine projects including MedSeq, BabySeq, eMERGE, and ClinGen.
Responsibilities of this individual will include:
Maintaining knowledge on areas of clinical genetics and genomics
Drafting reports, including the design and maintenance of reporting templates and test interpretations
Assessing variants and genes to determine their clinical significance
Supporting the interpretation of clinical/research exome and genome sequencing
Serving as a liaison between the LMM and healthcare providers and collaborators
Coordinating genetic counseling student observations and rotations
Generating marketing materials and representing the LMM at conferences
Optional opportunity to provide clinical genetic counseling one day a week through the MGH pulmonary clinic
Applicants should have a MS in genetic counseling, be board certified or board eligible, and MA state licensed or eligible for a MA state license.
Candidates should have strong writing and communication skills at both the professional and lay levels and be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
