Provide onsite genetic counseling to Women’s and Children’s Service Line and Oncology Service Line patients and families. Support strategies for family testing, care planning, and follow up. More specifically:
Assessment: Pedigree review using national standards of care. Document impressions in professional language. Provide information in lay language to patients as appropriate.
Develop plan of care as needed including recommendation of applicable lab testing and referral options
Data Collection: Work with Directors of the impacted Service Lines to establish metrics and benchmark with national standards. Timely collection and workflow agreement with Directors.
Report Development: Provide summary of volumes, patient categories, time utilization, referrals out, and outcomes. Develops monthly report.
Participation in meetings and makes presentations as needed.
Master’s degree in human genetics, counseling, or a related field required accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, Inc.
Certification through the American Board of Genetic Counseling highly desired
Licensed by the Ohio State Medical Board
Knowledge, Abilities and Experience
Previous experience working with cancer patients, family pedigree assessment, reproductive/neonatal support required
Patient, courteous, and tactful
Ability to communicate and relate well with staff, physician(s) and the public.
Must have awareness of patient confidentiality and be able to follow directions well from other healthcare practitioners
Must be able to work well autonomously with little direction.
Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations and critical analysis skills
Demonstrates ability to function under stress; ability to multi-task
