General Purpose: Under the direction of PI, Genetic Counselor 1 will mainly focus on counseling of patients, but also offers opportunities to learn and analyze genetic data, including exome sequencing, as well as use of diverse analytic tools to discover underpinning causes of common (complex) disorders. Genetic Counselor will support the efforts of the section to include the PI and all other staff at the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center (YCVRC).
Required Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Genetics or a related field or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG).
- Strong focus on flexibility, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, good follow-up and judgement. Must be able to prioritize.
- Well-developed counseling and interviewing skills.
- Excellent analytical, statistical, oral and written communication skills.
- Reliable, professional and flexible.
- Effective managerial and supervisory skills. Experience with patient counseling, especially in cardiovascular counseling and handling of big data is a plus.
