The Maternal Fetal Medicine Department at the University of Minnesota Health (Fairview) is seeking a driven and enthusiastic genetic counselor to join our dedicated team. As the only Maternal-Fetal Program in the region associated with an academic medical center, our team of genetic counselors brings their expertise to patients as well as collaboration with maternal fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, geneticists and other University of Minnesota Health specialists.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide genetic counseling services to patients for preconception and prenatal indications. This includes explaining risks and benefits of options for testing and screening.
Assessment of family history and obtain and review medical records of patients
Disclosure and interpretation of the results as well as documentation of communications
Provide supportive counseling to patients, including both before and after result disclosure.
Assist maternal fetal medicine specialists and staff with coordinating care for patients.
Participate in teaching and supervision of genetic counseling students in the University of Minnesota Genetic Counseling Program and other health care providers.
The ideal candidate for this position at University of Minnesota, Health should be enthusiastic and organized. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for a candidate in this multidisciplinary and dynamic maternal fetal medicine clinic of maternal fetal medicine specialists, pediatric specialists, NICU staff, social workers, sonographers and nurses. Previous experience is preferred but not required. May cover relocation expenses.
Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling
Must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
