SEARCH FOR THE CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL DIAGNOSTICS
Medical College of Wisconsin
The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a visionary leader to become their Chief Medical Director of Clinical Diagnostics within the Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center (GSPMC). This is an exciting opportunity for a leader in laboratory medicine to develop and lead a state-of-the-art laboratory.
MCW has a long-standing reputation of delivering innovative and compassionate patient care, conducting cutting-edge research, providing outstanding medical and graduate education, and improving the health of the communities it serves. MCW is one of only four medical schools in the country to have received the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification for its community outreach activities and Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin initiative. MCW’s providers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and psychologists care for more than 530,000 patients, representing more than 2.4 million patient visits annually. MCW is the second largest research institution in Wisconsin, receiving more than $225 million in external support annually for research, education, training, and related purposes. Within MCW, the GSPMC serves as a hub for foundational discovery research, clinical and translational science, and individualized patient care by providing infrastructure, service, and education for researchers and clinicians using genomic and epigenomic data. MCW faculty members made headlines worldwide after diagnosing “the first child saved by DNA sequencing” in 2010. Today, the GSPMC leads quality precision medicine and health care by enabling researchers and clinicians to use the genome sequence to understand disease, improve diagnosis and advance patient care.
Reporting to and in close partnership with the GSPMC’s Director, the Chief Medical Director will provide clinical and scientific direction to the molecular diagnostic laboratory, overseeing case review, clinical consultation, and assay development in histology, oncology, and human genetics. The Chief Medical Director will set research and development priorities, validate and implement new commercial assays and services, and provide superior leadership to the laboratory teams. This leader will also contribute to strategic planning and implementation of the Center as a whole, including development goals, collaborations, partnerships, and growth initiatives.
Candidates must have an MD and or PhD and be board certified in a relevant field with substantial experience in the administrative, clinical, educational, and research activities of an academic department of pathology. The Medical Director will have significant experience in leadership, operations, and professional and research financial management in a health system setting, academic healthcare center, or academic group practice environment. Familiarity with medical staff functions, academic and research development, hospital operations, quality improvement and strategic planning is essential.
