The Simons Variations in Individuals Project (VIP) Outreach Manager’s primary role will be to engage and cultivate a research community of individuals with genetic variants associated with autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Reporting to the senior project manager, the Outreach Manager will provide day-to-day management and oversight of communications with all genetic groups in support of initial recruitment, long-term retention and engagement in research. The Outreach Manager will also organize and disseminate timely research education materials to the community in order to raise awareness of the importance of research participation in rare disease groups.
Gather information from stakeholders (individuals with genetic diagnoses, family members/caregivers, SFARI researchers, Simons VIP and Simons Foundation staff) to determine key needs and messages to better enable Simons VIP to recruit and retain genetic communities of interest.
Develop and execute a detailed and substantive recruitment and engagement plan across website, social media and print channels.
Initiate and manage outreach content calendars for all of Simons VIP’s digital and print assets, webinars and quarterly newsletter for families, participants and research communities.
Manage development of all collateral materials for Simons VIP in collaboration with contracted marketing professions and study coordination staff
Develop and take a leadership role in externally facing digital engagement activities (webinars, Twitter chats, Facebook live, etc.).
Identify, track and analyze metrics for evaluating the success of Simons VIP outreach efforts.
Establish a Simons VIP community advisory council to provide a mechanism for both directly engaging the community in Simons VIP and eliciting feedback on communication strategies and community research interests
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with participant leaders of genetic family organizations
Work with the science team members to ensure communications and outreach strategies are scientifically valid and to identify research publications of high quality and relevance that can be shared with Simons VIP participants through webinars and/or research summaries on the website.
Seek out and reference resources from other organizations to augment existing Simons VIP materials for participants and family organizations (e.g., Global Genes, Genetic Alliance, Unique).
Interface with SFARI and Simons Foundation outreach managers to harmonize messaging where appropriate and develop cross-project/co-brandedcommunications/webinars for participants as necessary.
Identify possible researchers of interest for various genetic communities and develop a communication plan to encourage broader research use of Simons VIP resources
Attend conferences and community events to accurately represent Simons VIP’s mission and progress
Perform any other duties as assigned or required
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field is desirable.
