This position is sited at Health Sciences Centre (HSC) Winnipeg.
HSC Winnipeg is the largest healthcare centre in Manitoba. We are an interdisciplinary team of nearly 8,000 staff and volunteers who serve people in Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, and Nunavut. As well, HSC plays a special role in providing primary care for the community surrounding the hospital and in the core area of Winnipeg. HSC is formally affiliated with University of Manitoba, whose students learn from us, and where many of our staff teach and do research. We support professional development and well-being through programs such as staff wellness, appreciation, education, and training opportunities.
Under the general direction of the Program/Medical Directors, the incumbent is responsible for:
Maintaining a role in the provision of clinical services as a Genetic Counsellor.
Overseeing the daily clinical service delivery and environmental/operational issues in a designated service area to ensure optimum client care in a safe therapeutic environment. This includes coordinating clinical work schedules, caseload reviews, supporting student experiences, etc.
Providing guidance to team members through clinical leadership, mentoring, supervision, education, evaluation, and research.
Contributing to the delivery of quality services by examining, developing, refining and evaluating clinical practices and supporting quality, program planning and development.
Minimum of 5 years of recent, relevant clinical experience required.
Clinical leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Masters of Science Degree in Genetics or Genetic Counselling from a recognized training program required.
Board eligible/board certified with the American Board of Genetic Counselling (ABGC) and/or the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselling (CAGC) required.
Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CACG) and/or The National Society for Genetic Counsellors (NSGC).
Qualifications and Skills
Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
Working knowledge of computer programs and systems, i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email required.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring abilities.
Demonstrated understanding of the concepts of change management and experience supporting positive change.
Excellent interpersonal, team building and role-modelling skills.
Commitment to maintaining and evolving current knowledge in area of expertise through reviewing literature and attending continuing education in-services, workshops and conferences, involvement in research projects as well as participating in the training of Counselling students and other trainees.
Working knowledge of research/program evaluation methodology.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
Demonstrated organization skills in the workplace and the ability to determine clear priorities.
Mental and physical health to meet the demands of the position.
