The Genetic Counselor 3 will be shared jointly between the Comprehensive Cancer Center and Cancer Care Network and serves as a designated expert and consultant of genetic counseling for patients receiving care within UCDH and the Cancer Care Network. This position is responsible for providing cancer risk assessment, genetic testing, and communication of results to patients and clinicians. The Genetic Counselor 3 also provides follow up care and appropriate referrals for ongoing medical management. This position works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Cancer Care Network. This position utilizes telemedicine to work remotely with patients in the Cancer Care Network throughout Northern and Central California and will require travel to the Network sites.
Master's degree in clinical Genetic Counseling from an accredited training program.
Board certified in Genetic Counseling by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) with several years of demonstrated professional experience in genetic counseling and advanced level knowledge.
Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Genetic Counselor by the state of California. Licensing must be maintained in good standing (renewal every three years). If temporarily licensed, must complete certification within two years.
Demonstrated counseling skill and ability to provide genetic counseling with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of research techniques to develop, implement, and evaluate genetics and research projects.
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Effective communication and customer service skills.
Ability to apply knowledge from the areas of cancer genetics and other related medical specialties.
Previous genetic counseling experience with cancer patient population.
Experience with telemedicine.
Experience with Outlook, Epic, File Maker Pro, Progeny (or other drawing software) or demonstrated ability to learn.
Basic statistics knowledge and background.
Spanish, bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability.
THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT.
Ability to work occasional overtime as work demands.
Ability to travel between UCD medical campus buildings and additional satellite clinics.
May be required to travel to off-site meetings that may extend beyond one day.
