The Certified Genetic Counselor provides professional genetic counseling and hereditary cancer risk assessment to cancer patients and their families; coordinates communication between the patient and multidisciplinary team in the identification and evaluation of cancer related genetic traits.
You will join a team of genetic counselors who are positioned to work at the top of their scope of practice.
Applicants must be able to work independently, be detail oriented, and able to:
Obtain, analyze, counsel and follow up on cancer patients and their family's risk for cancer related genetic conditions
Collect, record and evaluate personal and family histories, interpreting data and assisting in determining possible problem areas
Provide patient education regarding hereditary cancer risk and explain natural history of disease to patient and family
Discuss implications of genetic test results to patient and family to provide patient-centered counseling, education and guidance
Provide options for medical management and screening based on established guidelines and risk assessment modelsProv
Identify and coordinate genetic lab tests and other diagnostic tests
Dictate and document all patient interactions and provide consult notes to patients and their physicians
Participate in applicable Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and PCI meetings
Identify community resources to provide medical, educational, financial and psychosocial support
Masters Degree in Human Genetics, Genetic Counseling or a related field is required and accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
Ability to obtain and maintain licensure in genetic counseling by the Ohio State Medical Board is required
Valid Driver's License is required
