The SIH Cancer Institute, a thriving and growing center, has been the answer to an unmet need in southern Illinois. The region's only comprehensive community cancer center was awarded in 2015 an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer. Our goal is to offer the expertise of specialty trained physicians and cutting edge technology while easing the burden of the cancer journey with compassionate, dedicated professionals. The 43,500 square-foot center brings together specialty physicians, specialized allied practitioners and technology at a comprehensive freestanding outpatient facility, and provides multidisciplinary clinics in one locations to streamline cancer diagnosis, planning, and treatment.
Services at the SIH Cancer Institute include medical oncology, radiation oncology, oncologic surgery, supportive care, specialty clinics, clinical trials, infusion center, nurse navigation, survivorship, psychosocial support, cancer rehabilitation, spiritual care, financial counseling, and data management. The center imparts a soothing atmosphere with a light-filled environment, comfortable waiting areas, family and community meeting space, patient library, coffee shop, resource center, healthy cafe, and healing gardens. SIH Cancer Insitute has six (6) investigators on the Heartland NCORP, the largest cooperative clinical trial group in America. They are proud to be a part of the Siteman Regional Cancer Task Force & the BJC Collaborative.

Active tumor conferences/boards (lung, breast, GI, GU, and others)
Obtain patient/family history, interpret results, coordinate treatment and/or surveillance plans, and refer to specialists as needed.
Provide genetic counseling services to patients and families within scope of practice, in specific areas of clinical genetic counseling.
Discuss testing options and the associated risks, benefits, and limitations with the patient and families, to assist them in making informed decisions.
Provide pre- and post-testing counseling and education to patients and family members by regarding inheritance of specific conditions.
Interpret lab results, communicate findings, and educate patients based on results.
Assess patient's psychological or emotional needs in relation to stress, fear of test results, and financial concerns. Provide counseling services through education and reassurance.
Write detailed consultation reports to provide information on genetic concepts and results.
Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
Actively participate in system-wide or hospital-based teams as needed.
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics from a college or university program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC).
Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABCG) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG).
Must be able to work with patients who have diverse cultural backgrounds, diverse life experience, education levels, life styles and socioeconomic statuses. Sensitivity and the ability to work with patients confidentially and positively are essential.
*The ideal candidate would be able to handle both cancer and OB/GYN (prenatal) testing.
