The Maternal Fetal Medicine Department of Carilion Clinic is seeking a full-time genetic counselor to join our dedicated clinical team to provide comprehensive prenatal genetic services to region of western Virginia. Our patient population and clinical indications for referral are diverse and will provide the successful candidate with broad exposure. As a tertiary care medical center, Carilion Clinic has the third largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the state a number of obstetric and pediatric subspecialists. Thriving multidisciplinary residency programs and affiliations with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) and Edward Via College Osteopathic Medicine provide numerous teaching opportunities to residents, medical students, and other medical professionals. The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, on the Carilion campus in Roanoke, also provides the opportunity of academic appointment.

Are over the age of 35 or under the age of 20.
Receive blood test or ultrasound results indicating a potential problem.
Have a family history of an inherited disorder or a personal history of miscarriage or stillbirth.
Experience pre-pregnancy health issues.
Develop medical disorders (such as elevated blood pressure or gestational diabetes) during your pregnancy.
We offer comprehensive prenatal diagnostic services, including:
Screening for birth defects and genetic disorders
First trimester screening for Down syndrome and trisomy 18
Second trimester alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) testing for open spina bifida
Quad screen analysis
Fetal ultrasound for the detection of major birth defects
Fetal echocardiogram for the detection of heart defects
Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS)
We have access to many pediatric specialists at Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital, including neonatologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, neurologists and pulmonologists.At our outpatient site, the team is supported by a team of nurses and other healthcare professionals dedicated to women experiencing high-risk pregnancies.
Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Urogynecology
Master's Degree from an accredited genetic counseling training program. Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Strong genetic counseling and interpersonal skills, intellectual interest and motivation to work independently. Clinical experience preferred.
