This position is accountable for counseling and case management of prenatal, medical genetic and metabolic genetic patients. Serves as a liaison between the patient, primary care provider, community agencies and the department eliciting and providing medical and genetic information in collaboration with the Geneticist and provides psycho-social support
Assess referral indication, medical/developmental issues and family history to ensure consultation is thorough, efficient and maximize outcomes for complex patients.
Provides counseling to patient/family as to inheritance patterns and genetic implications, adapting approach to meet the patient/families needs.
Researches appropriate medical records and reference materials to ensure thorough consultation. Shares interesting findings with peers.
Coordinates care management to ensure tests are ordered, results received and conveyed and referrals made to appropriate agencies.
Documents timely medical reports to allow for current disposition of case and maintains confidentiality at all times. Utilizes physician consultation on applicable cases
Masters Degree, ABCG- Am Board of Genetic Counselors
Active Candidate Status as designated by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
Additional Salary Information: Salary dependent upon experience.
