The Upstate Cancer Center at Upstate Medical University is looking for a Genetic Counselor to join their dedicated and compassionate team of expert professionals.

The Genetic Counselor works in consultation with the physicians within the Upstate Cancer Center with referring physicians to plan, develop, and implement clinical practice and research in the area of clinical human genetics. In addition, will work with other departments as the need for genetic counseling expands. The Genetic Counselor's primary responsibility is providing counseling to families and adults in the area of clinical human genetics. Conducts and extracts information from literature reviews to assist in developing a diagnostic plan or workup. Analyzes and interprets information obtained from the patient, medical records, and current available resource information. Provides comprehensive teaching of patient or families regarding the etiology, inheritance, incidence/carrier risks, genetic testing, test results and their implications for the individual and family members. Provides crisis and grief counseling when needed and makes appropriate referrals.
